Detained Worker Freed
Mumbai Sessions court has ruled that engaging in sex work is not inherently illegal but conducting it in public places can be an offense. The court directed a shelter home to release the female sex worker who was detained following a raid on a Mulund brothel. Court emphasized the woman’s fundamental right as a citizen to move freely and choose her place of residence. Detaining her solely based on her past activities was deemed improper. Court referred to a SC judgment calling for the release of adult victims unjustly detained in protective homes. The previous detention order was set aside, and the woman was set at liberty.
