SUPREME COURT of India stated that Uddhav Thackeray could have been reinstated as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister if he had not resigned following a rebellion by Shiv Sena lawmakers. The court held that it cannot quash a resignation and rejected the notion that Thackeray had lost the majority in the House. The appointment of Bharat Gogawale as the new whip was deemed illegal. The court instructed the speaker to determine the true Shiv Sena and rule on disqualification petitions. The legal battle began in June 2022 and involved multiple Petitions.
