NIYAMATPUR – 35-Year Legacy of No FIRs

In a world where headlines often scream of crime and chaos, there exists a place that seems to defy all odds. Nestled in Bhavalkheda of Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh, Niyamatpur is a small village that has not witnessed a single crime or act of violence for over three decades. Yes, you read that right – 35 years of unblemished peace and harmony.

Niyamatpur has not had a single First Information Report (FIR) filed in its police station for 35 years. In a world where many communities grapple with the ever-present threat of crime, this village stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration

The question that naturally arises is- How did Niyamatpur achieve this remarkable feat? The answer lies in the village’s unique governance of Gram Panchayat, which has played an integral role in resolving disputes and maintaining tranquility within the community. Here, the residents are not just neighbours; they are a tightly-knit family, and the spirit of unity is the cornerstone of their success.

The Gram Panchayat of Niyamatpur is no ordinary governing body. It boasts a time-tested tradition of settling disputes that spans generations. The approach is simple yet effective, when a conflict arises, both parties involved present their arguments and evidence before the Panchayat, which then delivers a fair and just verdict. This prevents the villagers from resorting to legal action, ensuring that peace and harmony are always maintained.

For an astonishing 35 years, this unique system has been in place, and the credit goes to the Yadav family, who have faithfully served their community as village heads. It all started in 1988 with Virendra Pal Singh Yadav, who was elected as the village head without any opposition – a testament to the trust and respect he commanded. His wife, Lajjawati Yadav, and daughter-in-law, Mamta Yadav, continued his legacy and upheld the principles of justice and unity within Niyamatpur. Today, the village is led by the capable hands of Abhay Pratap Singh Yadav, the youngest son of the pioneering Virendra Pal Singh Yadav.

The unity and sense of purpose that prevail within Niyamatpur are nothing short of extraordinary. With a population of around 2,000 people, the village’s residents are living proof that mutual respect and cooperation can lead to a crime-free existence. During elections, more than half of the villagers come forward to cast their votes, not as an obligation but as a celebration of their democracy. This enthusiastic participation further cements the village’s commitment to their unique system of governance.

Virendra Pal Singh Yadav, a former District Panchayat President, proudly asserts that Niyamatpur has not had a single First Information Report (FIR) filed in its police station for 35 years. In a world where many communities grapple with the ever-present threat of crime, this village stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration.

The story of Niyamatpur sends a powerful message – a message that transcends the boundaries of this peaceful village and reaches out to the world at large. It tells us that conflicts can be resolved peacefully, without resorting to violence or lengthy legal procedures. This small village is a testament to the incredible potential of effective local governance, community cohesion, and the unwavering belief in a harmonious way of life.

In a time where headlines are often dominated by tales of strife and division, Niyamatpur reminds us that peace, unity, and justice are not just lofty ideals but achievable realities. Niyamatpur is more than just a village; it is a living example of what can be accomplished when a community comes together in the name of peace and unity. It serves as a shining model for other villages and towns to emulate, proving that with determination, understanding, and a shared commitment to harmony, we can truly change the world, one village at a time.
