The court found the charge of accepting money from a stranger to be serious, and the penalty imposed was commensurate with the charge. The officer had challenged the decision and sought reinstatement, but the court held that a judge is expected to be unceremonious, prudent, and not take things in an easy manner.<\/p><p>The case highlights the importance of upholding ethical standards in the judiciary and is one of several similar cases in India in recent years. The officer had submitted documents pertaining to foreign travel in 2016 to the high court, and discrepancies were noticed with respect to hotel bookings made by an unknown person. Explanation was called, which led to an exchange of letters between them. Unsatisfied, the high court issued a memorandum containing the &#8216;Statement of Article of Charge&#8217; in 2018. The court held that a judge is expected to be unceremonious and prudent, and not take things in an easy manner. The court&#8217;s decision emphasises that a judge is always open to being judged, and that the post of a judicial officer comes with responsibilities that must be taken seriously.
