The ruling came in response to a petition filed by a man challenging his conviction under Section 498-A based on a complaint lodged by his second wife.<\/p><p>The court stated that for the prosecution to succeed, it must prove the legality of the marriage between the petitioner and the complainant. In other words, the complainant must be recognized as the legally wedded wife of the petitioner.
