PATANJALI, A prominent consumer goods company in India, is facing a legal challenge over allegations of using a non-Vegetarian substance in one of its dental care products. The company has been served with a legal notice for purportedly including ‘Samudra Phen’ (cuttlefish) in its Divya Dant Manjan toothpaste, which is marketed and labeled as a green or vegetarian product. The notice was issued by lawyer Shasha Jain, who expressed her concerns on social media regarding the deceptive use of a non-vegetarian ingredient, emphasizing the infringement on consumer rights and the offense caused to vegetarian and other communities.

The legal notice demands clarification from Patanjali regarding the alleged use of Samudra Phen, with warning of legal action if the company fails to respond. Jain shared images on Twitter displaying the product’s ingredient list, which clearly lists Samudra Fen (Sepia Officinalis), commonly known as cuttlefish. This development raises questions about product transparency, consumer trust, and adherence to labeling standards, potentially affecting Patanjali’s reputation and consumer perception.
