SATHYASRI SHARMILA, hailing from Tamil Nadu, has become India’s first transgender lawyer, marking a significant step towards the inclusion of the transgender community. Despite facing torture and abuse due to her gender, Sharmila persevered and enrolled in the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, achieving this historic milestone. The 36-year-old lawyer envisions a future where transgender individuals can hold high positions across the country. In other news, Rajasthan Police appointed its first transgender constable, Ganga Kumari, following a court order. Additionally, West Bengal appointed Joyita Mondal as the country’s first transgender judge in Islampur, North Dinajpur district.
