Delhi HC has ordered Google to remove YouTube videos that spread false and defamatory information about popular Indian spice brands. Allegations were made against ‘Catch Foods’ and its owner, Dharampal Satyapal Sons Pvt Ltd, claiming the use of cow dung and urine in their products. Justice Sanjeev Narula condemned the YouTube channels responsible for damaging the brand’s reputation, citing lack of credible evidence. Google complied with the directive to disable access and provide subscriber data. Summonses were issued to TVR and Views News, the YouTube channels, but they failed to appear in court, leading to an exparte proceeding. The court emphasized the need to regulate online content, citing Information Technology Rules. The court ruled in favor of the plaintiff, instructing Google to promptly remove future appearances of the videos and notify the plaintiff to take legal action if similar content reemerges.
