In a tragic incident on June 23, two personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force’s elite jungle warfare unit, CoBRA, were killed when Naxalites detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, police reported.
The explosion occurred at approximately 3 p.m. near Timmapuram village, situated between the Silger and Tekalgudem camps of security forces, located over 400 kilometers from Raipur, the state capital. According to a senior police official, an advance party of the 201st unit of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) had embarked on a patrol from the Silger camp under the Jagargunda police station limits. This patrol was part of their Road Opening Party duty towards Tekalgudem
The security personnel were traveling in a truck and on motorcycles when the Naxalites triggered the IED blast, specifically targeting the truck. The explosion resulted in the deaths of Constable Shailendra, aged 29, and the vehicle driver Vishnu R, aged 35.
Following the blast, additional forces were deployed to the location to assist in evacuating the bodies from the forest. A search operation is currently underway in the area to locate the perpetrators and ensure the safety of other personnel.
